What are your Rights when receiving IRT Community Services?

You have the right to:
  • be involved in deciding which services are the most appropriate for your needs;
  • be given enough information to help you make informed choices about the services you receive;
  • be given a written care plan of the services that you will receive (if required under program guidelines);
  • receive services that take account of your lifestyle, cultural and religious preferences;
  • be able to take part in social activities and community activities as you wish;
  • be treated with dignity and have your privacy respected;
  • make comments or complain about the services you receive without fear of losing services, or being disadvantaged in any way; and
  • choose a person to speak on your behalf for any reason. Where you are unable to access an appropriate person, IRT will facilite access to a suitable advocate.

What are your Responsibilities when receiving Community Services?

If you receive a Community Service you have a responsibility to treat people, including service providers, staff and other consumers with dignity and respect.
You also need to understand and pay the agreed fees applying to services. Fees are negotiated prior to commencement of services.

What are IRT's Responsibilities when providing Community Services?

In providing Community Services, IRT will:
  • assist you and/or your representative to make your decision about which services best suit your assessed needs based on informed choices;
  • offer you a written agreement which clearly sets out your rights and obligations, and those of the lRT (if required under program guidelines);
  • provide you with a written care plan of the services you will receive (if required under program guidelines);
  • consult with you, your family or your representative and explain the fees you will pay for the services you receive;
  • regularly review your situation to make sure that the services you are receiving are appropriate;
  • refer you to other services when needed;
  • respect your lifestyle choices and encourage you to maintain your preferred level of social independence;
  • make sure that you know about and understand your rights regarding privacy and confidentiality;
  • treat you and your home with dignity and respect;
  • make sure that you know what type of information is kept about you and let you see it if you so wish; and
  • deal with issues you raise fairly, promptly, confidentially and without retribution.
