Eva celebrates 110th Birthday
Mollymook’s Eva McConnell celebrated an extraordinary milestone last month, reaching the age of 110.
Eva is an IRT In-Home Care client who lives with her very supportive daughter and son-in-law. She is the matriarch of a large clan including six children, 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren. Eva is believed to be the oldest person in Australia still living at home.
Eva was still chopping wood when she was 100, and at 102 still lived on her own and cooked for herself. She moved to Mollymook to live with her daughter six years ago.
Relatives travelled from interstate to share Eva’s amazing celebration of 110 years, at a special luncheon held at the Ex Services Club in Ulladulla.
Eva received birthday wishes from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Governor General of Australia Quentin Bryce, Prime Minister Julia Gillard, the Governor of NSW Marie Bashir and NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell.
IRT In-Home Care staff celebrated this extraordinary birthday with Eva, with a special morning tea at her home. IRT sent Eva a beautiful bouquet of flowers and staff shared a caramel mud cake and a gift of a Memory Cushion.
IRT Shoalhaven In-Home Care Manager, Debbie Turnbull described Eva is a very special and charming lady.
“On the eve of her 110th birthday, Eva still managed to complete one ‘lap’ of the veranda and was able to join in with the celebratory morning tea. She is a truly amazing lady and staff from Shoalhaven In-Home Care are extremely privileged to care for this very special Super – Centenarian.”
