IRT Peakhurst resident turns 100
18 January 2012
IRT Peakhurst resident Neta Parkes will celebrate her 100th birthday with a party on Thursday, 19 January. Born on 19 January 1912, the Mudgee product credits her longevity to country living, including horse rides to school and walking everywhere throughout her childhood.
Born in the same year the Titanic sank, Neta served our country during World War II by working in the Lithgow Small Arms Factory, and was later employed for many years in the domestic section of Sutherland Hospital.
Neta enjoys life by taking walks throughout the IRT Peakhurst Community and chatting to other residents, listening to country music, singing and having a cup of tea.
The mother of one will be joined by family, residents, friends and staff at a birthday function at IRT Peakhurst.
Note for media:
A birthday celebration will be held on Thursday, 19 January 2012 at IRT Peakhurst, 24 Turpentine Avenue, in the Bonnet Centre from 2pm. Present will be Mrs Parkes, her family as well as community members and staff.
