IRT Research Foundation to fund new projects
IRT Research Foundation is calling for applications for its second round of research grants, with $70,000 available in 2011.
IRT Foundation Chairman, Lin Lewis said the funding would be applied across several grants, with a particular focus on PhD level studies.
“We are looking to fund research initiatives that seek to improve the mind, mobility and lifestyles of senior Australians,” Mr Lewis said. “We look forward to receiving Expressions of Interest for research projects that are conducted in conjunction with a recognised research institution, that are no longer than one year in duration, and that aim to benefit the ageing and those who care for them.”
IRT Research Foundation is currently funding three research projects at the Illawarra Medical Research Institute at the University of Wollongong:
- Molecular chaperones as agents of the ageing process, with the ultimate goal of developing therapeutic drugs to combat ageing and age-related disorders and disease.
- Prevention and early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease using gene expression profiling in a case-control population in the Illawarra.
- Different approaches to encourage healthy behaviours in self care facilities that improve an individual’s wellbeing and lifestyle.
Guidelines and an application form for the 2011 research grants are available at www.irt.org.au/irt-research-foundation.asp. Applications close on 29 April 2011.
