It's time to celebrate
2 December 2011
If you are struggling to find a Christmas t-shirt in the Illawarra at the moment, the IRT Illawarra Lifestyle Community Christmas Party might have something to do with it.
Some 40 IRT staff volunteered to assist at the party on Friday, December 2 and proudly wore their Christmas t-shirts at the event at The Shellharbour Club.
Planning and preparation for the Christmas Party starts in July, which is the biggest event on IRT’s social calendar. Just to get an idea of what’s involved, here’s a breakdown of the figures –
• At the club there were 1040 glasses and 2600 pieces of cutlery set out and 1040 meals served during the party
• 900 invitations were printed
• 460 residents attended
• 300 balloons and 60 metres of tinsel decorated the venue
• 130kg of chicken were used, plus 78kg of vegetables and 52 litres of custard
• Residents from 16 IRT Lifestyle Communities in the Illawarra attended the event
• 11 buses transported residents to and from the venue
• Two individually wrapped, handmade chocolates were at each place setting, which totals 10kg of chocolate
• 28 staff from the club worked at the party
• Three Christmas characters entertained the guests
• Plus there was endless amounts of Christmas cheer
IRT Chief Executive, Nieves Murray said months of hard work went into planning the event, which was attended by many IRT residents.
IRT Tarrawanna Gardens’ resident Mrs Myrtle Treloar has been to every IRT Christmas Party since she became a resident some 20 years ago.
She remembers back then the parties being fairly small, residents taking a plate of food and someone dressing up as Santa Claus.
Mrs Treloar enjoys the company of other residents at the Christmas Party, the entertainment and the meal.
At the 2011 Christmas Party the day’s fun activities included a visit from Santa Claus, plus entertainment from the band Paki, Kelly and Marsh and special guests.
IRT staff were on hand to make sure everyone had a great time and got into the Christmas spirit by donning a range of Christmas costumes.
“Our staff volunteer to help out on the day and it provides the opportunity for residents and staff to mingle and enjoy the celebrations,” Ms Murray said.
“The Christmas Party is a time to come together and celebrate with friends and staff, and remember what we have achieved over the past 12 months and look towards the New Year.”
