Retirement
Apartments Unveiled at Park Central
7th July 2005
The long awaited retirement apartments at Park
Central have been unveiled to an eager crowd when Illawarra
Retirement Trust (IRT) officially opened its display
apartment at Macarthur Village this week.
The event was host to residents, people on the waiting
list, representatives from IRT, the builders Hansen
& Yunken, Landcom and local dignitaries including
the Mayor and Member for Macarthur, Pat Farmer, who
popped champagne and were the first to inspect the new
display apartment at Macarthur Village.
IRT Chief Executive Officer, John Cowland, said, “The
official opening of the display apartment is a very
special day for us. This project has been years in the
planning and we are very pleased to finally be able
to show people the wonderful quality product we’ve
been talking about for so long. The results speak for
themselves and we encourage people to come and have
a look for themselves.
“This has been a special week for us for other
reasons. The first residents have been able to move
into their new home in Stage 1 of the village and meet
new friends and neighbours. We have had some very anxious
people watching the building progress over the past
few months and now they are able to relax and settle
into their new home and lifestyle at Macarthur Village.
“The unique difference for retirees when choosing
an apartment at Macarthur Village is the apartments
are specifically designed to cater for older people’s
needs and ongoing care and support is available. Discreet
details that make life easier as we age have been incorporated
into the design such as lever taps, higher power points
to minimise bending and grab rails in the shower. All
apartments have wider doorways to allow for wheelchair
access should it ever be needed. The great thing is
that the apartments are modern, spacious and their location
offers a wonderful lifestyle to ensure residents can
get on and enjoy themselves. Cafes, parklands, shops,
entertainment and services are all at your doorstep!
“A residential care facility (hostel) will be
built on the site ensuring residents have access to
ongoing care in Campbelltown should they need it in
the future. IRT also has Community Aged Care Packages
which allows care equivalent to that given in a residential
care facility to be delivered to people in their own
homes, which includes self care retirement apartments
such as Macarthur Village.
Stage 1 includes 72 self care apartments in a mix of
two, three and four storey apartment blocks. The apartments
feature secure underground parking, lift access in each
building, security intercom and remote door release
to the foyer entry. An air-conditioned Village Centre
which features a library, solar heated pool and BBQ
area is a focal point of the village design.
“IRT operates 36 retirement villages and I believe
the location of Macarthur Village would exceed anyone’s
expectations when looking for the perfect retirement
location.
“When it comes to retiring, Macarthur Village
has it all. “ Mr Cowland said.
Macarthur Village display apartment will be open 7 days
a week for the general public from Monday, 18 July and
is located at Apartment 7 Macarthur Village, 1 Hyde
Parade, Park Central – enquiries can be made by
calling 4633 2077.

Aged Care
Funding Boost for Local Region
19th January
2005
Illawarra Retirement Trust (IRT) is excited
to announce its success in the Government’s latest
round of aged care funding which will see 15 community
aged care packages (CACP) introduced into the Campbelltown
region.
Announced by the Minister for Aged Care, Julie Bishop,
this week, the new packages will be a welcome boost
to aged services in the area. CACP’s allow care
equivalent to that provided in a low level residential
care facility (hostel or assisted living) to be delivered
to people living in their own home in the community.
IRT chief Executive Officer, John Cowland, said “IRT
already has a well established infrastructure of Community
Services which includes over 247 funded packages and
an extensive range of private services. Our expansion
into Campbelltown will be a natural extension to our
already well established infrastructure of community
services.
“We are very excited about these new services
for the region as not only will they create new jobs,
they will also compliment the accommodation and services
to be provided by IRT at Macarthur Village which is
currently under construction within the Park Central
site.
“Community Services has been the growth area of
aged care for more than ten years now and IRT has always
been at the leading edge in providing a diverse range
of services to the elderly living in the community.
Community Services offer elderly people more choice
and flexibility in not only what care they receive but
where they receive it.
“We are also waiting the announcement of funding
for residential aged care places in Campbelltown which
is expected next month.”
Macarthur
Village at Park Central Unveiled
9th November
2004
Illawarra Retirement Trust (IRT) has unveiled
its plans for Macarthur Village, the long awaited retirement
apartments being built as part of the Landcom Park Central
development in Campbelltown.
It was launched at a function which was attended by
representatives from all levels of government and businesses
in the Campbelltown and surrounding areas.
Guest speakers included The Honourable David Campbell,
Minister for Illawarra and Member for Keira; The Honourable
Pat Farmer, Member for Macarthur; and Mr Brenton Banfield,
Mayor of Campbelltown.
The launch was an opportunity for IRT to unveil its
plans for this much talked about development, but most
importantly to instil its values as an organisation
and its commitment to the provision of high quality
aged accommodation and care to the Campbelltown community.
As one of Australia’s leading and innovative aged
care organisations, IRT is very excited to be able to
bring its well established infrastructure of care, accommodation
and services to this area.
IRT Chief Executive Officer, John Cowland, said, “IRT
has always expanded its accommodation and services on
the invitation of local communities or where there has
been an identified need for such services. Campbelltown
is an area that was identified as in need of purpose
built retirement housing. IRT’s accommodation
and services currently stretch between Sydney in the
North to Narooma in the South and we are extremely pleased
to be able to expand these services to the Campbelltown
region.”
At a total cost of $109 million, it is planned that
the new village will incorporate 310 self care and 60
assisted living apartments which will be built over
10 stages. Work commenced on stage 1 in July this year
with completion of Stage 1 expected in May 2005.
The self care apartments have been designed to provide
a secure living environment that promotes ongoing independence
and a relaxed lifestyle. There are a choice of two and
three bedrooms, each designed with a spacious balcony
area which take advantage of the surrounding landscaped
grounds and Park Central environment.
Stage 1 will include 72 self care apartments in a mix
of two, three and four storey apartment blocks. The
apartments will feature secure underground parking,
lift access in each building, security intercom and
remote door release to the foyer entry. An air-conditioned
Village Centre which features a library, solar heated
pool and BBQ area will also be provided as part of stage
1.
Residents of Macarthur Village will be supported by
IRT’s infrastructure of care and services to assist
in their ongoing independence.
“Macarthur Village will not only benefit the older
Campbelltown community, but will bring many advantages
to local businesses and the community in general.”
“Older people contribute so positively to communities
through their wealth of experience and the contributions
they make through participation in community activities.
Macarthur Village will offer older people more choice
to remain in the local area rather than having to move
to find the accommodation they desire.” Mr Cowland
said.
IRT will have two marketing officers based in Campbelltown
who will be taking all enquiries for Macarthur Village.
Located within the MarketFair Shopping Centre, all enquiries
can be made by phoning 4633 2077.
