Pathways through Partnership

IRT Group is leading the way in providing innovative age-friendly communities.

Kemira at IRT William Beach Gardens is a new type of community that will allow families to stay together in a supportive environment. The community addresses the needs of ageing people with intellectual disability and their carers who can struggle to find accommodation as they get older and their needs change.

Kemira is the first community built based on the Pathways through Partnership model.

The Pathways through Partnership model was designed by IRT with the Pathways Project Steering Committee members – Greenacres Disability Services, Interchange Illawarra and Community Gateway. The steering committee also involves the University of Wollongong, who are researching the effectiveness of the model design and developing a blueprint to guide policymakers and other service providers.

The collaboration is the first of its kind in NSW that bridges the critical gap between disability and aged care, demonstrating leadership in social innovation. When the blueprint is complete it will outline the key features of the model that are critical to its success.

Kemira is located within the established IRT William Beach Gardens Lifestyle Community and Care Centre precinct. Kemira includes 12 villas designed to the highest standards of accessibility, a community centre and five-bed respite centre.

Kemira is designed to accommodate people with intellectual disability who are living with their primary carer(s), are showing signs of ageing, and are (now or in the future) at risk of being separated due to increasing needs or significant challenges within their living environment. Signs of ageing may include decreased mobility, sensory decline, declining fitness and strength, and assistance needed for activities of daily living. Residents play an active role within this supportive community.

Construction of Kemira has been possible through $2.9 million funding received from the Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund and $2 million in cash and in-kind contributions from IRT.

If you would like to expression an interest in residing at Kemira expression of interest forms are available from IRT on Freecall 1800 024 915 or by emailing us at customerservice@irt.org.au
