IRT Research Foundation is currently supporting three research projects at the Illawarra Medical Research Institute at the University of Wollongong through $120,000 of grant funding:
• Molecular chaperones as agents of the ageing process, with the ultimate goal of developing therapeutic drugs to combat ageing and age-related disorders and disease – Dr Justin Yerbury and Dr Heath Ecroyd
• Prevention and early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease using gene expression profiling in a case-control population in the Illawarra – Dr Francesca Fernandez Enright and team
• Different approaches to encourage healthy behaviours in self care facilities that improve an individual’s wellbeing and lifestyle – Prof Sandra Jones and team.
Along with important financial assistance, IRT supports the above research projects via promotion and in some cases volunteer participation of IRT residents.
Expressions of interest for the 2011 IRT Research Foundation grants closed recently and are currently being assessed.
