Residential Care Facilities provide high care and low level care.

  • High care traditionally referred to as nursing homes, provides full nursing care supported by registered nursing staff 24 hours a day.
  • Low care traditionally referred to as hostels, is supported on a daily basis by personal care staff, with access to a registered nurse when needed.

At IRT residential care facilities, we encourage residents to maintain their independence.  We also encourage family and friends visiting regularly.

Assessment

Entry for high and low residential care accommodation is determined by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) funded by the Commonwealth Government. This assessment undertaken by ACAT and IRT is to determine suitability to adapt to life in a care facility.

Tenure

Tenure is secured by a written Residence Agreement for a licence to occupy. This Agreement is drawn up in accordance with the Commonwealth Aged Care Act 1997 and includes a schedule which outlines the responsibilities of both IRT and residents. Prospective residents are encouraged to discuss the agreement with their solicitor.

Accreditation

Under the Commonwealth Government's Aged Care Act 1997, all residential care facilities must be accredited every three years by the independent Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.

All IRT residential care facilities have achieved the maximum accreditation since it was introduced under the Aged Care Act in 1997.
