Trainee Peter Makes it all the Way to National Finals
13 September 2011
It's been a big year for IRT Dalmeny Trainee Care Service Employee Peter Buttrey whose achievements in the workplace earned him a place as a finalist in the 2011 HESTA & Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) Aged Care Awards in the trainee category.
The winners were announced in Sydney on Monday night (September 12) and although he didn’t win the trainee category, being a finalist was a great tribute to Peter and his commitment to his work. The national awards celebrate excellence, commitment and innovation in aged care. Earlier this year Peter won the trainee award in the 2011 Aged and Community Services State Awards for Excellence, and became a contender for the national award.
It was his leadership skills and innovative ideas that caught the attention of staff at IRT Dalmeny where he has worked as a Trainee Care Service Employee since last year.
Taking on a traineeship was a complete change of career for Peter, who worked as a real estate consultant for 20 years and he has risen above the challenges that come with starting a completely new and different occupation.
IRT Area Manager Eurobodalla, Helen Spence said Peter’s achievements were a great credit to Peter and the trainee program.
“Peter is a team player and this is evident at work through his calming influence on others around him,” he said. “He has demonstrated a wonderful support with our younger trainees and he encourages them to participate and contribute in the classroom setting and also to be proactive in the workplace.”
Peter is an integral part of the trainee learning community at IRT Dalmeny where he is keen to implement his learning in day-to-day practice. “He is always positive in his outlook and approach,” Helen said.
IRT Dalmeny Care Centre currently employs 18 trainees.
