Dear Care Team,
You may be aware that Wollongong is the host city for the 2022 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Championships, an international road cycling event, from 17 to 25 September.
The Championships feature a number of races that will take place on the streets around the Wollongong CBD and surrounding suburbs across the week.
The event will result in temporary changes to transport and traffic flow in areas of the Illawarra, and this is expected to have an impact on some of our aged care centres.
Plan ahead
If you are travelling to any of our Illawarra operations during the week of the Championships, I encourage you to become familiar with expected road closures and changed traffic conditions prior to your trip.
Detailed information regarding the event can be found at https://wollongong2022.com.au. The website includes a range of information about the Championships including the race schedule, road closures, and frequently asked questions, and is being updated regularly as further details for the event are finalised. For a detailed overview of road closures including interactive maps, visit https://wollongong2022.com.au/resident-information-road-closures/
The project team is currently finalising access maps that will highlight the best route to take to access your care centre during the week of the event. These maps will be made available at your site in the coming week.
We also encourage you to check NSW Live Traffic website or app for real-time traffic updates prior to your journey.
If your journey to and/or from your home to work is affected by the Championships, please consider if you are able to take an alternate route, and allow extra travel time for your trip. If you have any concerns regarding how the event may affect your ability to get to work, please speak with your manager as soon as possible so suitable arrangements can be made.
Our operations
Our business units are working through the details of these impacts and will adjust schedules and planned activities for affected sites as further details of the event are confirmed. In the lead-up to the event, it would be appreciated if you could consider these impacts when planning activities for your site(s) for the week of 17 – 25 September.
Our operations in the northern suburbs of the Illawarra may experience some minor disruptions as a result of limited access due to road closures and changed traffic conditions on the final weekend of the Championships, 24-25 September.
