For those studying in a classroom/virtual classroom environment:

  • Approximately 6-8 hours of home study per week plus classroom hours
  • An online learning resource and assessment pack will be provided and pre-reading is essential before attending classes.

Like choosing any area of study, the choice is a personal one for you to make. Aged care is a rapidly expanding industry where demand for workers will increase as the Australian population increases. A multitude of knowledge and skills are required by a hospitality worker to provide excellent service across cleaning, food preparation and food service to rooms and dining rooms.

No, there are no prerequisites for this course.

One day per fortnight over an 8-month period with a mixture of virtual and face-to-face classes held at IRT Academy in Wollongong and practical assessments in the workplace.

No formal work placement hours are required, but there are workplace assessments. These are on-the-job observations completed by an accredited IRT Academy trainer and they generally take place at the person’s place of work.
