Gareth Ward MP to open Parkside at IRT Pioneer Place
Parkside at IRT Pioneer Place, IRT Group’s newest retirement community in the heart of
Wollongong will be officially opened today.
Gareth Ward MP, Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, will perform the
official duties on behalf of NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, The Hon Matt Kean MP.
Construction on Parkside at IRT Pioneer Place began in mid-2016, and residents were
welcomed to their new home in June this year. Sales of the apartments were popular with a large proportion purchased from the plan and all but three of the 75 apartments now sold.
IRT Group CEO, Patrick Reid said the $35 million project, constructed next to IRT’s existing Howard Court apartment building at the corner of Stewart and Kembla streets, has been designed to promote connected city living for seniors.
“Parkside is architecturally designed to make residents feel connected with Wollongong City,” Mr Reid said.
“It’s within easy walking distance to Wollongong’s major shopping centres, supermarkets, cinemas, alfresco restaurants and the café precinct; with Wollongong Harbour, WIN Entertainment Centre and the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre also nearby.
“Utopia Coffee House, the on-site café is open to the public to encourage residents’ day-to-day contact with the broader community.”
Communal barbecues, a community lounge and common garden areas are all intended to enable residents to socialise with each other or host visiting friends and family.
Entertainment activities encourage interested residents to socialise, combatting the social isolation which is often a challenge for seniors. Movie nights, happy hours, public holiday get–togethers, exercise classes, card games and bus trips are all on the agenda.
“Parkside is the new face of retirement living in Wollongong and we are proud of its place in the broader community of IRT Pioneer Place,” Mr Reid said.
“As baby boomers age and retire they still want to enjoy a great lifestyle. That’s what Parkside has to offer.”
The two and three-bedroom apartments, ranging in size from 85 to 130 square metres are all adaptable for full accessibility and technology enabled, with features including seamless indoor/outdoor living with large balconies, quality fixtures and fittings.
