An update about IRT Culburra Beach Aged Care Centre

28 February 2023

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to let you know about some changes to our Journey of Care model at your loved one’s care centre.

What is Journey of Care?

Journey of Care is a model that personalises the care experience for every resident. We recognise that every journey is unique and honour the diversity of each resident’s care needs.

How does it work?

At your loved one’s care centre, we have created neighbourhoods that cater to resident care needs. These neighbourhoods are purpose-built environments where residents receive compassionate care from our trained staff and experience specialised programs grounded in the latest research that align to their care needs.

At IRT Culburra Beach, we have the following neighbourhoods:

  • Vitality – this caters for residents who are mobile and includes Shoalhaven Court, Banksia and Waratah.
  • Serenity – this caters for residents whose mobility is declining and includes Evans and Branson.

What’s changing?

The number of people needing Serenity care in our local community and hospital is increasing. To support the growing number of referrals we are receiving for this type of care, we had to review our current environment.

The review has determined that we can safely accommodate residents needing Serenity care in Banksia and Waratah due to the size of the rooms and shared common spaces.

What does this mean for residents currently living in Banksia and Waratah?

There will be no changes to the care and services that residents in Banksia and Waratah currently receive, and the environment as they know it now will not change. The only difference is that, moving forward, we may have different programs running in these two areas, and different staffing hours to be able to care for all residents.

We are also reviewing our staffing model as part of this change.

Who can I speak to for more information?

We are committed to keeping you informed about changes to your loved one’s care centre.

If you would like more information about these changes, I would be happy to meet with you to discuss the plan in more detail and answer any questions you may have.

I will be at your loved one’s care centre over the next few weeks meeting residents and staff, so if you would like to arrange a meeting with me, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0436 939 142.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards

Linzi Kells
Operations Manager – Shoalhaven Aged Care Centre
