An update about IRT Dalmeny Aged Care Centre

13 September 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your support and understanding as we manage the risk of COVID-19 at your loved one’s aged care centre.

I wrote to you late last week to provide you with an update on our residents in Mummaga Wing who were earlier diagnosed with COVID-19. I am pleased to let you know that since then they have continued their recovery with a number already reaching a full recovery.

Coupled with this pleasing news is confirmation from PCR tests conducted since last week, of no further cases within the wing.

We are now caring for 3 residents with the virus who are all doing well with few symptoms.

While this is good news we haven’t lost focus on the risk of transmission, and we continue to apply all infection control protocols outlined in our outbreak management plan. This includes, where possible, limiting the movement of Mummaga Wing residents who are still experiencing symptoms, and providing them with one on one support. We are also continuing to serve meals to the residents in their rooms.

As the risk of transmission remains, all residents of Mummaga Wing, who haven’t been diagnosed with the virus, will be tested again tomorrow.

I will provide you with another update later this week when we hope to have the results and, if there are no further cases, news of a transition out of our outbreak management plan. Until then, the arrangements for visiting, as outlined below, remain in place.

Visiting arrangements

Mummaga Wing

We encourage you to postpone your visit at this time. If you do wish to visit please contact the Care Centre first to discuss your plans and be guided on how to make it as COVID-19-safe as possible, and according the following arrangements.

Please note: If you are visiting after-hours and on a weekend, please be patient while waiting for staff to open the door. If they don’t respond immediately it is because they are caring for a resident, but will respond as soon as they are able.

  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • No children under the age of 12 years are permitted to visit.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test (taken on the day of the visit) before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and face shield which will be provided on entry. You will also be instructed on how to dispose of your PPE safely when leaving.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff.

All other areas of the care centre

There are no changes to visiting in all other areas of the care centre.

Please note that if you have had COVID-19 you must not enter an aged care centre until 10 days has passed from your diagnosis day, and you have no symptoms.

As previously outlined do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result. You may still have influenza or another virus which is highly contagious

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely
