An update about IRT Sarah Claydon Aged Care Centre

28 July 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your ongoing support as we manage your loved one’s aged care centre in accordance with our outbreak management plan.

Sadly since writing to you on Wednesday one of our residents who was in hospital for treatment on a non-COVID related issue has passed away. The resident, who was ninety, will be missed by their friends and staff at the care centre, and on behalf of IRT I extend condolences to their family.

The resident had not been at your loved one’s aged care centre for long, but was highly regarded, and they will be in our thoughts in the coming days as we go about our work.

In other news, we have had confirmation that the additional two residents from Meroo and Morton who were identified as positive earlier this week do not have COVID-19. The results were false positives and re-testing has confirmed that are negative.

While this is pleasing news and nearly all residents with COVID-19 have reached their recovery criteria, it is countered by the results of all tests conducted yesterday which have unfortunately confirmed one more resident in Meroo to be positive. The resident has mild symptoms and is being monitored closely in their room.

While this is another disappointment we continue to focus on all elements of our outbreak management plan and are committed to working towards a resolution of the outbreak.

We are currently seeking guidance from the local public health unit on the need for any further testing of residents.

While all residents are being encouraged to limit their movement in and out of the care centre, staff recognise the desire of some to move out and about and are providing information to them on the risks associated with their decision. They are also continuing to provide support and help where needed to ensure they remain connected with family and friends by video and phone calls.

Fourth booster

Aspen Clinical has advised us they will be at the care centre tomorrow to offer the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to all eligible residents. If you have any questions about the eligibility of your loved one please contact the Care Manager.

Visiting arrangements

You are reminded that the risk of the virus and its transmission still remains across the centre and strongly encouraged not to visit. If you do proceed with your visit however, please assist staff with the following arrangements.

  • Two visitors per resident and by appointment only.
  • No children under the age of 12 years.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear a P2/N95 mask when visiting and other PPE as directed by staff.
  • Please wear your mask as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely
