An update about IRT Sarah Claydon Aged Care Centre

03 August 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you again for your support as we continue to manage the risk of COVID-19 in your loved one’s aged care centre.

I am pleased to let you know that we have received the results of tests conducted yesterday for all residents in Meroo (except those who already have the virus), and all were negative.

With no new cases, we are now caring for only two residents with the virus and they are residents of Meroo. Both are stable and are being monitored closely.

All other residents in Meroo are encouraged to remain in their rooms where staff are supporting them with their care needs and assistance where required with phone and video calls to family and friends.

Activities have resumed elsewhere in the care centre and residents of those areas are now able to leave their rooms and socialise with others in their area, and we are advising them on the risks still present within the care centre.

Further tests

While we seem to have turned a corner with a reduced number of positive cases in the care centre, we have not dropped our guard and continue to work in accordance with our outbreak management plan with strict infection controls still in place.

To ensure we detect any further cases as soon as possible, all residents of Meroo who have not been diagnosed with the virus in the past few weeks will be tested again tomorrow.

Residents in all other areas of the care centre do not have to be tested.

I will provide you with another update on Friday when we hope to have the results of tomorrow’s tests. Staff will let you know by phone if your loved one returns a positive test result.

Visiting arrangements

I do appreciate the current circumstances may be challenging, but as we continue to manage the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the centre, visits are still strongly discouraged. As previously explained however, if you do go ahead with your plans to visit, the following arrangements are in place:

  • Two visitors per resident and by appointment only.
  • No children under the age of 12 years.
All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test before entering the care centre.
All visitors are asked to wear a P2/N95 mask when visiting and other PPE as directed by staff.
Please wear your mask as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely
