An update about IRT Sarah Claydon Aged Care Centre

26 July 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your support as we manage the challenging outbreak of COVID-19 in your loved one’s aged care centre.

Since writing to you last week the majority of residents (except one) who were earlier diagnosed with COVID-19 reached their recovery criteria, and have been able to leave their rooms and meet with others within their cottages. In Mimosa and Budawang some small group activities have also resumed.

Unfortunately however, the results of tests conducted since my last update have confirmed that two more residents have the virus. They are residents of Meroo and Morton and although they have returned a positive test are quite well, with few if any symptoms. We are monitoring them closely as we care for them in their rooms.

While this is disappointing news we remain steadfast in our commitment to all elements of our outbreak management plan, minimising the risk of transmission; and have our sights set firmly on resolving this outbreak.

This includes continuing our program of testing for early detection; with all residents who have not yet tested positive to the virus to be tested again tomorrow via the PCR method.

As you know the results from this method can take up to 24 hours. I will provide you with another update when we have received the results, but staff will let you know by phone if your loved one returns a positive result.

Staff continue to provide support to all residents and help where needed to connect with family and friends by video and phone calls.

Visiting arrangements

With the confirmation of two more cases within the care centre this is a reminder that the risk of the virus and its transmission still remains across the centre.

For this reason there is no proposed change to our visiting arrangements. Visiting is still strongly discouraged but if you wish to proceed with your visit please contact the Care Manager to discuss making an appointment for your visit, and please comply with instructions regarding the wearing of PPE.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

Nia Briguglio
