An update about IRT Sarah Claydon Aged Care Centre

06 July 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your support as we manage your loved one’s aged care centre in accordance with our outbreak management plan.

In my message to you on Monday I let you know that four residents in Budawang and Woodburn wings had tested positive for COVID-19, and in response we conducted further testing (via the PCR method) of all other residents.

We have received the results of those tests and another three residents have tested positive. We now have seven residents from across the centre (Meroo, Mimosa, Woodburn and Budawang wings) diagnosed with COVID-19. All are stable with mild symptoms, and one who tested positive last week is expected to reach their recovery criteria today.

We continue to monitor them closely and have encouraged all residents to remain in their room where they are receiving their meals and support from the Lifestyle team.

In order to continue detecting any other cases as early as possible all residents (except those who have already tested positive) are being tested again today via the PCR method where samples are sent off-site for laboratory analysis. I will be in touch with you again on Friday when we expect to have the results. If your loved one tests positive, staff will be in touch with you by phone to let you know.

Visiting arrangements

I indicated to you on Monday that visiting the Budawang and Woodburn wings was not permitted until we had results of Monday’s tests. With all results received and new cases across most areas of the centre we now strongly encourage you not to visit any area of the centre.

However I do recognise your right to choose to visit your loved one, even as we manage the risk of COVID-19 in the centre. To this end, if you do wish to proceed please be mindful of the risk in doing so, and assist staff with the following.

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted.
  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test and before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will also be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself, with even the mildest symptoms. Symptoms of infection can indicate a range of contagious viruses including COVID-19, gastroenteritis and influenza.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

Nia Briguglio
