An update about IRT Tarrawanna Aged Care Centre

26 October 2021

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your ongoing support as we manage the COVID-19 outbreak at your loved one’s aged care centre.

I am pleased to let you know that all results from yesterday’s tests have been received and all are negative for residents and employees. Testing will resume again tomorrow and I am sure our residents will enjoy the break from testing today.

Yesterday, three of our residents reached the recovery criteria of 14 days since their positive swab and three days with no symptoms.

We are now caring for 15 residents with COVID-19 at the care centre.

Some of these residents are stable, with no symptoms and are expected to be considered recovered in the coming days, while unfortunately one is still experiencing challenging symptoms and declining due to their age and underlying medical conditions. We continue to monitor all residents closely, with support of the Virtual Community Care team.

Some people have asked about the recovery of our employees who have tested positive. All have experienced a range of symptoms and while they have had some difficult days, are now on the road to full recovery. We expect some to be cleared for a return to work in the coming week.

The challenge of isolation

Our Lifestyle team remains focussed on assisting our residents who are naturally challenged by this long period of isolation in their rooms. Escorted walks through the hallway and to the courtyard have been popular for those residents who are able, and today additional physiotherapy staff will join the team to help residents with improving their strength and mobility.

The team is also continuing to assist residents when needed to connect with family and friends via phone and video calls. Today flavoured milks and ice-blocks will again be offered as additions to our range of daily treats, and preparations are underway to celebrate Oktoberest tomorrow.

Please remember if sending or delivering gifts to include your loved one’s name and ensure they are dropped off between 10am – 11am and 1pm – 2pm each day at the table outside reception. As previously mentioned, and as the weather begins to warm up, please don’t send items that require refrigeration.

Ongoing communication

As the nominated representative of your loved one, I will continue sending you an update via email like this one. Please pass on this information to other family contacts as appropriate.

As I mentioned yesterday, if your loved one is a resident who has not been diagnosed with COVID-19, our team will provide you with an update by phone tomorrow and Friday.  They will continue to make their daily phone calls to those whose loved one is diagnosed with COVID-19.

If you have any questions or concerns please call our Customer Service Team on 134 478.

Thank you again for your support and understanding.

Yours sincerely
