An update about IRT Tarrawanna Aged Care Centre

Dear family member/resident representative,

Since writing to you yesterday all has remained stable at your loved one’s aged care centre.

Today, all residents and staff will once again be tested and I am grateful for their support with this important process. I realise it’s not comfortable, but it is necessary to ensure we address and manage any further risk within the centre. As I indicated yesterday there will be no testing tomorrow and further testing on Friday.

We continue to care for 15 residents with COVID-19 at the care centre.

There has been no major change to their recovery and experience of the virus since yesterday with some stable and progressing towards being considered from a clinical perspective, recovered. Unfortunately one resident is experiencing challenging symptoms and declining. Our close monitoring of all our residents continues with support from the Virtual Community Care team.

We recognise that the difficulty of prolonged isolation for all our residents presents its own issues and we are making every effort to ensure they are supported with phone and video calls; activities; and escorted walks to the outdoor area to enjoy this period of good weather. Our Psychologist is also actively engaged with the team at the care centre to monitor and support all our residents as required.

Oktoberfest

Today the Lifestyle team, with support from the Catering team, will encourage residents to celebrate Oktoberfest. Residents will receive Oktoberfest-themed activity packs, and the Catering team has developed a special menu of sausages, sauerkraut and schnitzels, and for those residents who are able, beer will also be served. The team has also worked on special desserts in the same theme.

Ongoing communication

As the nominated representative of your loved one, I will continue sending you an update via email like this one. Please pass on this information to other family contacts as appropriate.

If your loved one is a resident who has not been diagnosed with COVID-19, our team will provide you with an update by phone today and again on Friday. They will continue to make their daily phone calls to those whose loved one has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
