An update about IRT Tarrawanna Aged Care Centre

12 October 2021

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide you with an update about your loved one’s aged care centre.

When I wrote to you yesterday we were awaiting all results of Sunday’s tests of residents and staff. We have received all results and all are negative for our residents. We had one positive result for an employee who had been isolating away from work since we became aware of our first case last week.

The employee was one of a group of staff who were identified early as close contacts of the residents who were first diagnosed. As close contacts they have all been isolating but have continued routine testing. We are rotating staff to ensure those who need to, can complete their isolation period before returning to work.

We have been asked about which strain of the virus our residents and staff have tested positive for. Details about which strain are not provided to us with the results of the tests, but we have confirmed that, as with all other current cases in Australia, it is the Delta strain.

Our residents in both hospitals who have other health concerns are stable and their COVID-19 symptoms continue to range from none at all to mild. Mild symptoms include low grade fever, sore throat, runny nose, and cough. We continue to be in contact with their nominated representatives and both hospitals for updates on their progress.

Residents who remain at the Centre and have tested positive also have a similar range of symptoms and are being monitored closely.

Testing again today

All residents and staff are being tested today. This precautionary testing remains important as we complete the first 7-8 days of the outbreak period and includes all staff who have worked at the centre since the first resident was diagnosed. Those not at work and isolating are completing their tests at local drive through testing stations.

I will keep you informed of the results.

Staying connected

We continue to care for all residents in their rooms and today we have an increased focus on assisting them to connect with their family and friends by phone and video calls. The Catering team is also working on another range of treats for their enjoyment.

Delivery of Gifts

The residents have enjoyed receiving their gifts. Please assist with the following when ordering them for delivery, or dropping them off:

  • Remember to include your loved one’s name on the gift so we can ensure it goes to the right person
  • All items to be delivered between 10am – 11am or 1pm – 2pm
  • All items to be placed on a table which has been positioned and is identified as the table for gift delivery outside reception (this has been moved further undercover from the rain but is still easily identified)
  • Do not send items that require refrigeration

In addition to my regular updates our team will continue making regular phone calls to you as you are identified in our records as the person responsible for your loved one. We are not able to communicate with all family members so please pass on this information to other family contacts as you deem appropriate.

No visiting

As previously stated the centre remains closed to all visitors (other than those attending for end of life).

If you have any questions or concerns we would appreciate it if you called our Customer Service Team on 134 478.

Thank you for your ongoing understanding and support.

Yours sincerely

Nia Briguglio
