An update about IRT Tarrawanna Aged Care Centre

9 June 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide you with an update regarding the current outbreak of COVID-19 within your loved one’s aged care centre.

Yesterday I let you know that in response to a number of residents testing positive for COVID-19, we had implemented our outbreak management plan and all residents in the centre underwent precautionary PCR testing.

Results of the tests have been received, identifying a further 6 residents testing positive from the Cockatoo, Kingfisher and Lorikeet wings, bringing the total number of residents diagnosed with COVID-19 to thirteen. While some residents remain challenged by their symptoms, others are experiencing symptoms ranging from mild to none at all.

In consultation with nominated representatives, some of the residents have been transferred to our specialist COVID-19 unit at Kirrawee in the Sutherland Shire where they will continue their recovery.

All residents have been encouraged to remain in their rooms and will be tested via the PCR method again tomorrow. While the risk of COVID-19 remains high in the care centre we have strongly encouraged all residents to avoid moving about the building, and we would appreciate your support in their decision to stay in their room.

The Lifestyle team continues to check on each resident to ensure they have access to activities of interest and are offering assistance where needed with phone and video calls.

Visiting arrangements

As outlined yesterday, with the care centre now managing an outbreak, different visiting arrangements are now in place.

You are encouraged to postpone your visit but if you do continue with your plans to visit the arrangements below now apply. Please assist the care centre by complying with the following:

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit.
  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test and before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will also be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre

Please do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell, even if the symptoms are mild. Even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result you may still have influenza which is highly contagious.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Walsh
