An update about IRT Tarrawanna Aged Care Centre

14 June 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide you with an update about your loved one’s aged care centre.

Since my update to you on Friday all residents who had not already tested positive were tested again (on Friday and Sunday). We have received the results and another three residents are confirmed to be COVID-19-positive.

We now have 9 residents at the centre in Cockatoo and Kingfisher wings, one in Lyrebird and six residents at our COVID-19 unit in Kirrawee managing a range of symptoms from mild to moderate.

All are being monitored closely and along with other residents are being encouraged to remain in their rooms and to avoid moving about within the building.

To ensure early detection of any further cases, all residents (who haven’t already tested positive) will be tested again via the PCR method and I will let you know the results.

The Lifestyle team has been visiting residents to assist where needed and scheduling video calls with family and friends. If you are talking with your loved one and have any concerns about this please contact the Care Manager.

Today the Lifestyle team has distributed updated activity packs and treat bags containing sweets and chocolates for the residents’ enjoyment.

Activities in the Rosella, Lorikeet and Kookaburra wings are continuing as planned.

Visiting arrangements

I encourage you to postpone any plans to visit at this time, but if you do wish to continue visiting your loved one please assist the care centre by complying with the following:

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit.
  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will also be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Please do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell, even if the symptoms are mild. Even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result you may still have influenza which is highly contagious.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely

Richard Walsh
