An update about IRT William Beach Gardens Aged Care Centre

14 June 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your support and understanding as we manage your loved one’s aged care centre in accordance with our outbreak management plan.

I let you know on Friday that residents in Flinders West and Nebo who had not tested positive would undergo a further round of tests via the PCR method. With all results received I can confirm that another resident in Nebo has tested positive for COVID-19.

Results of rapid antigen testing of residents on Sunday were all negative. To ensure we continue to detect any new cases early, all residents in Nebo who have not yet tested positive, will be tested again today. I will let you know the results when we receive them but if your loved one tests positive staff will let you know by phone.

In pleasing news all residents in Flinders West who were managing COVID-19 have now reached their recovery criteria. With an additional COVID-19-positive resident in Nebo we are now caring for two residents there, and another two residents remain in hospital for clinical management of their symptoms.

While many of our residents have reached their recovery criteria, with one new diagnosis, the risk of the virus remains within the centre. We remain focussed on all infection control protocols and continue to encourage residents to minimise their movement within the care centre where possible.

Our Lifestyle team continues to support them with activities of interest and assisting where needed with phone and video calls.

Visiting arrangements and the wearing of PPE

As we continue to manage the risk of the virus within the care centre I encourage you to postpone your plans to visit but if you do proceed please continue to assist staff by complying with the following:

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit.
  • Residents will be permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors will be asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors will be asked to wear all necessary PPE while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • If you are visiting a resident who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 you may be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please assist staff by complying with all requirements to wear PPE.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself with even the mildest symptoms. Even if you have tested negative for COVID-19 you may still have influenza which is also highly contagious.

Please pass this information to others as you consider appropriate.

If you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you again for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Walsh
