An update about IRT William Beach Gardens Aged Care Centre

10 June 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide you with an update about your loved one’s aged care centre.

Pleasingly, we have received results from tests on Wednesday for residents in Flinders West and Nebo wings, and all were negative.

Since my last message to you we have also welcomed back all our residents who were transferred to our COVID-19 unit at Kirrawee. They have reached their recovery criteria and we were pleased to see them.

We continue to care for four residents at the care centre who are COVID-19 positive, while two residents have been transferred to hospital for additional treatment and clinical observation.

For the utmost caution and to ensure early detection of any further cases, residents of Flinders West and Nebo who haven’t tested positive will be tested via the PCR method today and again via the rapid antigen method on Sunday.

I will provide you with another update on Tuesday when we hope to have the results. If your loved one returns a positive result staff will be in touch with you directly.

Visiting arrangements and the wearing of PPE

Although many of our residents have recovered, the risk of the virus remains within the care centre and for this reason I encourage to reconsider visiting at this time. If you do proceed with your visit please assist staff by complying with the following:

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit.
  • Residents will be permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors will be asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors will be asked to wear all necessary PPE while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • If you are visiting a resident who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 you may be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please assist staff by complying with all requirements to wear PPE.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself with even the mildest symptoms. Even if you have tested negative for COVID-19 you may still have influenza which is also highly contagious.

Please pass this information to others as you consider appropriate.

If you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely

Richard Walsh
