An update about IRT Woonona Aged Care Centre

30 August 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we manage the outbreak of COVID-19 at your loved one’s aged care centre.

Unfortunately since writing to you last week, one resident in Flametree Level 1 tested positive to COVID-19. The resident is located in the River Rose Wing and, to minimise the risk of transmission on this level, the doors between the wings have been closed.

The only residents isolating on Level 1 include the one resident who tested positive to COVID-19, along with a small number of residents who have been identified as close contacts. All other residents on Level 1 are free to leave their rooms and meet with each other in their common areas and the dining room.

We also continue to care for five residents on Flametree Ground Floor with the virus. The five residents are all located within the Peppertree Wing and are recovering well with no symptoms. All five residents are due to reach their full recovery criteria by the end of this week, pending a final review.

The only residents isolating on the ground floor are those in the Peppertree Wing. All other residents on the ground floor are free to leave their rooms and meet with each other in their common areas and the dining room.

Our next round of PCR tests for residents in Flametree Level 1 and Flametree Ground Floor who have not already tested positive will take place tomorrow.

I will provide you with another update later this week which will include the test results and hopefully news of more of our residents reaching their recovery criteria.

Revised visiting arrangements

River Rose and Peppertree Wings

While we continue to manage the risk of COVID-19 at the care centre, visiting to the River Rose and Peppertree wings is strongly discouraged. If you do wish to proceed with your visit, please contact the care centre in advance to make a booking.

All other areas of the care centre

Please assist staff by complying with the following:

  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • No children under the age of 12 are permitted to visit.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test and before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will also be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

As always please do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell, even if the symptoms are mild. Even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result you may still have influenza or another virus which is highly contagious.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you again for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely
