An update about IRT Woonona Aged Care Centre

23 August 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide you with an update regarding your loved one’s aged care centre as we manage it in accordance with our outbreak management plan.

Support from the Australian Defence Force

This week your loved one may notice some new faces around the care centre as five members from the Australian Defence Force spend some time on site supporting our residents and staff. This is part of a Federal Government initiative to assist aged care centres with resourcing where needed.

Our Australian Defence Force visitors are with us for the next five days and will be assisting with general duties including washing and folding laundry, making beds, delivering meals, cleaning up after meals and wiping down tables. They will also be spending some time with our residents and supporting them with activities, taking them for walks, and having a chat or a cuppa with them.

We are grateful for the support from the Australian Defence Force and hope your loved ones enjoy getting to know them over the next couple of days.

Test results

While the majority of the results from tests conducted across the centre over the weekend were negative, four residents on Flametree Ground Floor unfortunately returned a positive result.

All residents diagnosed with COVID-19 in Flametree Level 1 and Flametree Ground Floor are stable with symptoms ranging from none at all to moderate as we care for them in their rooms.

To minimise the risk of transmission, we continue to encourage all residents in the Flametree building to remain in their rooms where possible, and the Lifestyle team continues to provide them with additional support including activities to suit a range of interests, and help with phone and video calls where needed.

In some good news, we’ve had a number of residents who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 reach their full recovery criteria and these residents are now free of the virus. We expect to have more residents reach their full recovery criteria in the coming days, too.

We are continuing with our regime of precautionary testing for early detection and will be testing all residents in the Flametree building who have not already tested positive to the virus again today. I will provide you with another update when we receive the results, but if your loved one returns a positive test result staff will contact you directly.

Restricted visiting

As the risk of transmission remains within the care centre, visiting is still restricted to those who provide essential care only and by arrangement with the Care Manager.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely

Nia Briguglio
