An update regarding IRT Woonona Aged Care Centre

14 April 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to let you know that some of our residents in Teatree Wing at your loved one’s aged care centre are currently experiencing symptoms of what we suspect to be a scabies outbreak.

We have already been in touch with the families of the affected residents and the NSW Public Health Unit has been notified.

The residents are clinically stable, have been isolated in their rooms and strict infection control protocols are being followed in their care.

All clothes and soft furnishings will be washed and treated in accordance with bug control recommendations and residents will receive treatment in accordance with medical advice.

Visiting arrangements

We strongly encourage you to reconsider the need to visit your loved one at this time. If a scheduled visit must proceed, please ensure you follow all visiting requirements as outlined here.

Children under the age of 12 and pregnant women should not visit Teatree Wing until we are sure that the risk of infection is decreased.

We understand that this news is disappointing, especially as we approach the Easter long weekend but it is standard infection-control practice.

If you choose not to visit the Lifestyle Team can assist where needed to connect residents with family and friends by phone or video call.

If you have any questions or concerns about the wellbeing of your loved one, please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you once again for your support and understanding.

Yours sincerely,

Nia Briguglio
