Important information about IRT Crown Gardens Aged Care Centre

10 November 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

Thank you for your support and patience as we manage the risk of COVID-19 at your loved one’s aged care centre.

Since writing to you earlier this week, unfortunately another two residents were confirmed to have the virus. In some good news, however, we have received the results of yesterday’s PCR tests and all were negative.

I’m also pleased to share that five residents have reached their full recovery criteria and are now free of the virus. Another 16 residents are also expected to reach their full recovery criteria tomorrow, pending a final review.

We continue to care for 24 residents with COVID-19 at the centre. Other than experiencing some mild symptoms such as a cough and sore throat, all residents are regarded as stable. We continue to closely monitor the health and wellbeing of all resident in consultation with their GPs.

To reduce the risk of transmission we continue to encourage all residents in the care centre to remain in their rooms where they are being supported with their care needs and served their meals. We recognise however that for some this is challenging and, where required, staff are providing support with escorted walks outside, along with other forms of one-on-one engagement.

Our Lifestyle team continue to provide residents with activities to suit a range of interests and assistance where needed to connect with friends and family via phone calls. If you are speaking with your loved one and have any concerns, please let us know.

To ensure we detect any other cases as early as possible, all residents will be tested via the PCR method again tomorrow and again on Monday.

I will provide you with another update early next week which will include the results of these tests, and hopefully news of more residents reaching their full recovery criteria. As previously explained, if your loved one returns a positive result, staff will let you know by phone and continue to update you on their progress.

A reminder about contacting the care centre

We kindly ask that if you wish to speak with staff at the care centre, please phone reception on 02 4475 3633. Please do not call the RN phone as this disrupts floor staff from carrying out the important work of caring for your loved one.

Please note that out of business hours on weekdays (from 5pm – 9pm) and over the weekend (from 8.30am – 9pm), the care centre reception phone will be answered by a customer contact centre representative.

Care centre remains closed to visitors

Last week, in consultation with NSW Health authorities, the decision was made to close the care centre to all visitors, except those for essential purposes arranged in accordance with care centre staff.

At this stage the care centre will remain closed to visitors and we hope to have an update on this decision early next week.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact reception at the care centre on 02 4475 3633.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely

Nia Briguglio
