Dear family member/resident representative,
I am writing to provide you with an update about your loved one’s aged care centre as we manage it in accordance with our outbreak management plan.
Earlier this week I let you know that two residents in Mummaga Wing had been diagnosed with COVID-19 after testing positive to a PCR test. In response to this we implemented our outbreak management plan and began our regime of precautionary PCR testing of all other residents in that wing to ensure early detection of further cases.
PCR tests were conducted on Wednesday in accordance with this regime and all were negative. However, since then two more residents have developed mild symptoms and confirmed positive via the rapid antigen testing method.
The residents, and those earlier diagnosed, are stable, experiencing mild symptoms, and in consultation with their GP, have been prescribed anti-viral medication.
To minimise the risk of transmission, we are encouraging all residents to remain in their rooms where they are being served their meals. We recognise however, that for some this is challenging, and where required staff, are providing support with escorted walks and other forms of one-on-one engagement.
All residents of Mummaga wing, who haven’t tested positive, will be tested again today via the PCR method. I will provide you with another update like this one early next week. If your loved one returns a positive test result staff will contact you to let you know.
Mummaga Wing
If you choose to visit this wing at this time, please be aware that the risk of COVID-19 remains in this area. We are aware though, that this coming Sunday is Father’s Day and you may still wish to proceed with your plans to visit your loved one.
If you do want to visit, please contact the Care Centre to discuss your plans and you will be guided on how to make it as COVID-19-safe as possible and in accordance with the arrangements outlined below.
All other areas of the care centre
There are no changes to visiting in all other areas of the care centre.
Please note that the reduced isolation period from 7 days to 5 days, as publicly announced for the wider community earlier this week, does not apply to people visiting an aged care centre. If you have had COVID-19 you must not enter an aged care centre until 10 days has passed from your diagnosis day, and you have no symptoms.
Further to the above please do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result. You may still have influenza or another virus which is highly contagious.
Plans for our resident and relatives meeting on Monday currently remain in place but are subject to change at short notice depending on the status of the outbreak. We will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible if we need to postpone it. Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely
Nia Briguglio
