Important information about IRT Dalmeny Aged Care Centre

30 May 2023

Dear family member/resident representative,

This is an update about how we are managing the risk of COVID-19 at your loved one’s aged care centre.

Firstly, I’m saddened to share that one of our residents who had tested positive to COVID-19 and was receiving treatment in hospital with other health-related matters passed away on the weekend.

On behalf of everyone at IRT I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to the resident’s family members and friends, including our Dalmeny residents and staff who are also deeply saddened by this resident’s passing.

Unfortunately since I wrote to you last week, another four residents have tested positive to COVID-19. We are now caring for nine residents with COVID-19, eight of whom live in Mummaga and one who lives in Wagonga.

All residents who are currently positive with COVID-19 are experiencing a range of mild symptoms including a cough, hoarse voice and scratchy throat. Our staff are closely monitoring all residents for symptoms of COVID-19 and are caring for those who have tested positive in their rooms.

To ensure early detection of any other cases, all residents who have so far tested negative for COVID-19 in Mummaga were tested via the PCR method yesterday and we are currently waiting for the results. Residents in Wagonga who have so far tested negative for COVID-19 were rapid antigen tested yesterday and pleasingly all results were negative.

If your loved one returns a positive result, we will let you know by phone and continue to provide you with a daily update regarding their progress.

Visiting arrangements

As we manage the risk of COVID-19 at the centre, you are encouraged to postpone your visit to the care centre at this time. If you do continue with your plans to visit, please assist the care centre by complying with the following:

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit the care centre.
  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact, is COVID-19 positive, or resides in Mummaga will also be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Upcoming resident and relatives meetings postponed

To minimise the risk of transmission across the care centre, we have decided that it is best not to proceed with the Resident and Relatives meeting that was scheduled for Monday 5 June.

I will be in touch with you again soon to provide details of the rescheduled meetings.

As always please do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell, even if the symptoms are mild. Even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result you may still have a contagious respiratory infection.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely

Kristy Spooner
