Important information about IRT Five Islands Aged Care Centre

8 August 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide you with an update regarding your loved one’s aged care centre.

A resident in House 1 has tested positive for COVID-19. After displaying symptoms this morning, the resident has since returned a positive COVID-19 result. The resident is experiencing mild symptoms and is being monitored regularly while isolating in their room.

In response to this we have implemented our outbreak management plan, which includes a range of infection control protocols, in order to minimise the risk of the virus spreading within the care centre.

To ensure early detection of any other cases, all residents in House 1 are being tested today via the PCR method where samples are sent off-site for laboratory analysis. Results for these tests can take up to 24 hours.

If your loved one returns a positive result, staff will let you know by phone, and a member of staff will continue to provide you with a daily update regarding their progress.

I will provide you with another update once we have received the results of the PCR tests.

Visiting arrangements

Visiting arrangements for your loved one’s aged care centre remain unchanged at this time.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself, with even the mildest symptoms. Symptoms of respiratory infection can indicate a range of contagious viruses including COVID-19 and influenza.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

Nia Briguglio
