Important information about IRT Macarthur Aged Care Centre

24 April 2023

Dear family member/resident representative,

It is with sadness that I share with you that one of our residents who had been receiving end of life care and had also tested positive to COVID-19 passed away this morning.

This resident will be sadly missed and I express my sincere condolences to their family members and friends, including their fellow residents and our staff.

We have had a number of residents who had tested positive for COVID-19 reach their recovery criteria and they are no longer isolating in their rooms. We are currently caring for six residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, while one resident has been transferred to hospital.

These residents live in the Banksia and Orchid wings and on Level 1. Staff are closely monitoring these residents and are caring for them in their rooms.

To ensure the detection of any other cases, all residents on Level 1 and in the Banksia and Orchid wings who have not already tested positive to COVID-19 will receive a PCR test on Thursday 27 April. If your loved one tests positive, staff will let you know by phone and will continue to update you on their progress.

Visiting arrangements

If you plan to visit the care centre while we are managing the risk of COVID-19, please assist us by complying with the following:

  • All visitors are asked to complete their own rapid antigen test at home or on arrival at the centre and provide proof of the negative result (photo or actual test).
  • All visitors are asked to wear a P2/N95 mask when visiting and other PPE as directed by staff.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will be provided with direction on any further PPE requirements by a member of staff.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Banksia and Orchid wings and Level 1

Further to the visiting arrangements above, please note that while we manage the risk of COVID-19 at the centre, children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit the Banksia or Orchid wings or Level 1.

More details on our visiting arrangements can be found on our website here.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself, with even the mildest symptoms. Symptoms of respiratory infection can indicate a range of contagious viruses including COVID-19 and influenza.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely

Belinda Pheeney
Acting Operations Manager Sydney – Aged Care Centres
