Important information about IRT Macarthur Aged Care Centre

28 April 2023

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to provide an update about how we are managing the risk of COVID-19 at your loved one’s aged care centre.

We have received the PCR results for the tests taken yesterday by all residents on Level 1 who have so far tested negative. Unfortunately, the tests returned three more positive results. In consultation with their GPs these residents will be starting antiviral medication.

In more pleasing news, a number of residents will soon reach their recovery criteria and be able to de-isolate from tomorrow. We have also been happy to welcome the return from hospital a Banksia wing resident who had tested positive for COVID-19. We expect that they too will be de-isolating tomorrow.

Staff continue to closely monitor all residents for symptoms of COVID-19 and are caring for those who have tested positive in their rooms. Our lifestyle staff continue to support residents with activity packs, one on ones and assistance with contacting family via phone or video calls.

To ensure the detection of any other cases, residents in Banksia wing and on Level 1 will be tested tomorrow. If your loved one tests positive, staff will let you know by phone and will continue to update you on their progress.

Visiting arrangements

If you plan to visit the care centre while we are managing the risk of COVID-19, please assist us by complying with the following:

  • All visitors are asked to complete their own rapid antigen test at home or on arrival at the centre and provide proof of the negative result (photo or actual test).
  • All visitors are asked to wear a P2/N95 mask when visiting and other PPE as directed by staff.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will be provided with direction on any further PPE requirements by a member of staff.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Banksia and Orchid wings and Level 1

Further to the visiting arrangements above, please note that while we manage the risk of COVID-19 at the centre, children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit the Banksia or Orchid wings or Level 1.

More details on our visiting arrangements can be found on our website here.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself, with even the mildest symptoms. Symptoms of respiratory infection can indicate a range of contagious viruses including COVID-19 and influenza.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions, please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely

Belinda Pheeney
Acting Operations Manager Sydney – Aged Care Centres
