Important information about IRT Macarthur Aged Care Centre

2 May 2023

Dear family member/resident representative,

I’m very sad to bring news to you today that one of our residents who had been receiving end of life care and had also tested positive to COVID-19 earlier in the current outbreak passed away yesterday.

The resident will be dearly missed and it is a loss deeply felt. On behalf of everyone at IRT, I pass on my sincere condolences to the resident’s family and friends, including their fellow residents and our staff.

In more heartening news, following the recovery of a number of residents who had earlier tested positive to COVID-19 we are now caring for just four COVID-positive residents on Level 1 of the care centre. There are now no active cases in Orchid or Banksia Wings.

The remaining COVID-positive residents on Level 1 are being cared for in their rooms and are experiencing a range of symptoms from mild to nothing at all. All residents on Level 1 who have so far tested negative will receive a PCR test today to ensure the detection of any other cases.

If your loved one tests positive, staff will let you know by phone and will continue to update you on their progress.

Visiting arrangements

If you plan to visit the care centre while we are managing the risk of COVID-19, please assist us by complying with the following:

  • All visitors are asked to complete their own rapid antigen test at home or on arrival at the centre and provide proof of the negative result (photo or actual test).
  • All visitors are asked to wear a P2/N95 mask when visiting and other PPE as directed by staff.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will be provided with direction on any further PPE requirements by a member of staff.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff. If a staff member asks you to adjust it they are doing so to protect you, your loved one, and all others living and working in the care centre.

Banksia and Orchid wings and Level 1

Further to the visiting arrangements above, please note that while we manage the risk of COVID-19 at the centre, children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit the Banksia or Orchid wings or Level 1.

More details on our visiting arrangements can be found on our website here.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself, with even the mildest symptoms. Symptoms of respiratory infection can indicate a range of contagious viruses including COVID-19 and influenza.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely

Belinda Pheeney
Acting Operations Manager Sydney – Aged Care Centres
