Important information about IRT Sarah Claydon Aged Care Centre

4 July 2022

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to let you know that four residents in Budawang and Woodburn wings at your loved one’s aged care centre, have tested positive to COVID-19.

In response we have implemented our outbreak management plan including a range of infection control protocols in order to minimise the risk of the virus spreading within the care centre.

The residents are experiencing mild symptoms and are being monitored closely as we care for them in their rooms. All other residents of Woodburn and Budawang wings are being encouraged to remain in their rooms where they are being supported by the Lifestyle team and served their meals.

To ensure early detection of any other cases, all residents of Woodburn and Budawang wings (except those who have already tested positive) are being tested today via the PCR method where samples are sent off-site for laboratory analysis, the results for which can take up to 24 hours.

Visiting arrangements

We are now in consultation with the NSW Public Health Unit and have also introduced the following for those planning to visit the centre.

Until we have the results of tests for residents of Woodburn and Budawang we have reluctantly closed those wings to all visitors, unless by special arrangement with the Care Manager.

If you are visiting elsewhere within the centre you are encouraged to postpone any plans to visit. If you do continue with your plans please assist staff with the following arrangements.

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit the affected area of the care centre.
  • Residents are permitted 2 visitors only by appointment.
  • All visitors are asked to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test and before entering the care centre.
  • All visitors are asked to wear all necessary PPE at all times while in the care centre including a P2/N95 mask and a face shield which will be provided on entry.
  • Those visiting a resident who is considered a close contact or is COVID-19 positive will also be asked to wear a gown and instructed on how to dispose of it safely.
  • Please wear your PPE as instructed by staff.

Please do not visit if you are unwell yourself, with even the mildest symptoms. Symptoms of respiratory infection can indicate a range of contagious viruses including COVID-19 and influenza.

Please pass this message on to others as you consider appropriate and if you have any questions please contact your Care Manager.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

Nia Briguglio
