Dear family member/resident representative,
I am writing to let you know that one of our residents in the Melaleuca wing at your loved one’s aged care centre has tested positive to COVID-19. The resident is experiencing mild symptoms and is being monitored closely as we care for them in their room.
We have also had four staff members who work in various areas of the care centre test positive to COVID-19 and they are recovering at home away from work.
In response to this we have implemented our outbreak management plan, which includes a range of infection control protocols, in order to minimise the risk of the virus spreading within the care centre.
As a precautionary measure, all willing residents in the Melaleuca wing have been tested using the rapid antigen testing method. Pleasingly all results were negative. To further minimise the risk all residents in that wing have been encouraged to remain in their rooms where they are being supported by the Lifestyle team and served their meals.
There is also a resident of our Boronia wing who has been in close contact with the virus. They are being closely monitored in their room and although they have tested negative, are being encouraged to remain there for now.
To ensure early detection of any other cases, all residents from across the centre will be tested tomorrow via the PCR method where samples are sent off-site for laboratory analysis. Results for these tests can take up to 24 hours.
My next update to you will be on Monday when we hope to have the results of tomorrow’s tests.
If your loved one returns a positive result, staff will let you know by phone, and a member of staff will continue to provide you with a daily update regarding their progress.
Visiting arrangements
We are now in consultation with the Queensland Public Health Unit and have introduced the following arrangements for those planning to visit the centre.
Melaleuca wing
Until further notice we have reluctantly closed this wing to all visitors, unless by special arrangement with the Care Manager.
All other areas of the care centre
You are strongly discouraged from visiting but if you do wish to visit please assist staff by complying with the following arrangements which will apply from tomorrow.
As always please do not visit your loved one if you are experiencing any symptoms or are feeling unwell, even if the symptoms are mild. Even if you have a negative COVID-19 test result you may still have influenza or another virus which is highly contagious.
