Information about visiting your loved one’s aged care centre

17 October 2022

I would like to thank you for your support as we have navigated some challenging circumstances in your loved one’s aged care centre since the pandemic began.

I am grateful for your assistance as we’ve worked to minimise the risk of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses entering the care centre and if you visit your loved one on a regular basis you would be aware of what we require of you before and enter and while you are there.

You may be aware of some recent discussions in the media regarding a possible end to the pandemic, and the easing of just about all restrictions that were introduced to manage the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the community.

Chief health officers have even recently agreed to remove the requirement to isolate at home for those diagnosed with the virus.

While these determinations are in response to high levels of vaccination within the community and perhaps a perceived community immunity, there is no doubt that the risk of the virus still remains, it is still highly transmissible, and for our older Australians with other health concerns it is still can be potentially deadly.

For this reason, despite the easing of restrictions in the broader community, many risk management procedures and processes remain in place for those working in, or visiting an aged care centre.

While there are less restrictions associated with visiting your loved one now than there were this time last year, there are some requirements to consider before you visit in order to help us keep our residents and staff as free as possible from the risk of viral infection (including COVID-19).

Visiting arrangements

If your loved one’s aged care centre is not managing an outbreak of transmissible infection including COVID-19, there are no limits to the number of visitors a resident can have at any one time and there is no need to make an appointment.

The following Dos and Don’ts apply when visiting your loved one.

Visiting arrangements during outbreak conditions

If your loved one’s care centre is managing an outbreak of respiratory infection I will keep you updated with information about any variations to the above.

If you have any questions please speak with your Care Manager.

Thank you again for your ongoing understanding and patience.

Yours sincerely

Nia Briguglio
