To celebrate Volunteer Week 2018, IRT Group is rewarding its volunteers by launching its annual Volunteer Awards. The awards form part of IRT’s Volunteer Strategy, launched in December 2017, which aims to optimise the IRT volunteer experience through to 2020.
There are winners in each of IRT’s six regions – four in NSW (Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Sydney), one in Queensland and one in the ACT.
The Eurobodalla winner is Dr Graham Thomas who has been volunteering his dental services to IRT Dalmeny since 2014. During the past four years he has performed over 200 procedures on our residents including extractions, scale and polish, restorations and fluoride treatments.
“Dr Thomas shows great empathy towards his patients and will always take the time to chat about the ‘old days’ with them,” Mr Dawson said.
“His gentle manner proves to be an asset when dealing with the residents’ cognitive impairments and health. He makes himself available for emergencies and this also puts residents’ families at ease if they can’t personally take them to a dentist.
“Our 800 volunteers are an integral part of the IRT Group team and we are able to fulfil our mission through the continued support of both employees and volunteers,” said Toby Dawson, IRT Foundation Manager.
“IRT’s Volunteer Program, which includes the awards, is designed to ensure that IRT’s volunteers feel valued and rewarded. In the face of a declining trend in the number of people offering to volunteer across Australia, the awards program aims to attract and retain volunteers,” he said.
