What is collaborative housing?

Collaborative housing is a new concept, designed to encourage participation, sharing and community building, while enabling each person to also have their own private and secure home.

Jasmine Grove has been designed specifically to encourage sharing of resources, spaces and everyday activities, allowing a more affordable, sustainable and enjoyable way of living for a group of women over 55 living on their own. The Jasmine Grove community rooms and gardens will include a communal lounge space, a kitchen for cooking and meals, and a garden for self-sustaining vegetables for the whole community to enjoy.

IRT has been part of the UTS collaborative housing guide which provides a number of different stories about how people are developing collaborative ways of living.

Gardening and green space at Jasmine Grove

Gardening, growing produce and communal cooking are central themes in the shared spaces at Jasmine Grove. We hope residents will cook meals together with produce grown in their own garden, building strong social connections at the same time.

Within the community there are defined spaces for growing vegetables, storage for tools and supplies, and a commercial kitchen in the common area. There are also decorative gardens to tend around the villas.

Residents are encouraged to use these spaces as opportunities to build community, connect with other residents and promote sustainable lifestyles.

New movies are added each month to the Entertainment Hub, ensuring you’ll always have something new to watch.

Essence Emergency Response System

The Essence Care@Home platform enables seniors to live independently in their home, utilising voice activated technology to provide seamless health monitoring and emergency response 24/7.

The Essence Care@Home PERS+ product is included in every villa at Jasmine Grove as part of IRT’s effort to future-proof your new home. It uses a base unit, pendant and voice activation to detect risks or health concerns. All residents will be provided with training on the Essence Care@Home platform after moving in.

IRT is proud to partner with Essence to provide this new ageing in place technology, enabling you to remain in your home for longer, and improving your safety. At IRT, we want your new home at Jasmine Grove to be your home for life.

A community within a community

Jasmine Grove residents will form part of the wider IRT Kanahooka community, along with Henry Brooks Estate residents. You’ll share your home with local birdlife, beautiful scenery and friendly neighbours.

Residents will benefit from the community clubhouse, outdoor chessboard, landscaped pocket gardens and other amenities within the wider IRT Kanahooka community. Do as little or as much as you want at Jasmine Grove at IRT Kanahooka.

Empowering women to live well together

As an organisation, IRT is dedicated to housing innovation that meets identified needs for older Australians.

A community within a community, Jasmine Grove meets one such need, allowing women living on their own to establish purposeful connections in a safe and welcoming environment.
