How it works

Getting started is simple, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Apply for an assessment

Contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to check your eligibility and book a free in-home assessment. An assessor will identify the services that best match your needs.

Confirm your funding

You’ll receive a written confirmation outlining your approved care level, the services you’re entitled to, the government’s contribution, and any gap fee you may need to pay.

Start receiving care

Choose an approved provider within 56 days of your confirmation. Together, you’ll design a care plan around your goals, lifestyle, and budget, then your services begin.

You’re finding household tasks harder to manage

You want extra support to keep living independently at home

You’d like help keeping your home comfortable and safe

You could be eligible if:

You’re aged 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)

You live independently and want to stay in your own home

You’ve been assessed by My Aged Care

You would benefit from practical support with everyday tasks

What will I pay?

Everyday Living is government-subsidised for eligible older Australians.

If you receive funding through My Aged Care, your Everyday Living services are subsidised. This may mean a contribution based on your individual circumstances, as each type of service is funded a little differently.

That means you can access practical support at home, like help with cleaning, meals and shopping, with clear costs and no unexpected surprises.

No, a referral isn’t required, although your GP may recommend services. Eligibility is confirmed through My Aged Care.

Support can be arranged as often as you need, from occasional help to regular visits. Your plan is flexible and can change over time.

No. You can receive Everyday Living support whether you live on your own or with family.

Yes. Everyday Living can be provided alongside Clinical Care and Independence Support as part of one personalised plan.

If you’re eligible for the Support at Home Program, government funding may help cover the cost of your services.

Your care plan is reviewed regularly and can be adjusted if your needs change over time.

Switching is easy! Just:

  • Give our friendly customer service team a call on 134 478
  • Let My Aged Care know and ask for your referral code to be reactivated
  • Inform your current home care provider
  • Start getting home care services from IRT when your previous arrangement ends.

You’ll be issued with a final statement from your old provider and your unspent funds will be transferred to your new account with IRT.
