IRT unveils major expansion in Campbelltown, marking next stage of growth at Macarthur Place
IRT has unveiled plans for a significant expansion of its retirement village at Macarthur Place in Campbelltown, delivering new homes and contemporary shared spaces to meet surging demand for seniors’ living in the region, and Australia’s rapidly growing ageing population.
The proposal will transform vacant land owned by IRT at 2 Hyde Parade in Campbelltown, adjacent to the existing village, into two new eight-storey residential buildings delivering around 112 independent living units with a mix of curated ground floor units and penthouses.
Plans also include a new clubhouse, landscaped outdoor areas designed to enhance connection, wellbeing and community life, and parking for each new unit, guests and support services.
IRT CEO Ross Gallagher said the expansion represents the next stage in the evolution of one of the region’s most established seniors’ living communities.
“At its heart, this proposal is about building on what already makes Macarthur Place special – creating new homes, modern shared spaces and future-focused amenities, so the community can continue to grow and thrive well into the future,” Mr Gallagher said.
“Importantly, the design has been developed with industry experts to integrate seamlessly with the existing village, with careful consideration given to privacy, overshadowing, and neighbourhood character.”
The proposed clubhouse is envisioned to act as a central hub, complementing existing facilities and providing flexible spaces for social connection, events and activities shaped by resident feedback.
IRT has been engaging with existing residents of its retirement village since September 2025 through face-to-face meetings and will continue consultation with residents, staff, families and neighbours as the project progresses.
Mr Gallagher said the proposal reflects both demographic change and IRT’s long-term commitment to the Macarthur region.
“As Macarthur grows, so too does the need for housing that supports older people to live independently, with the right services, amenities and community around them,” Mr Gallagher said.
“This expansion will create more purpose-built homes for people who want to downsize, stay connected and age with confidence.”
Population projections show Campbelltown’s retirement-age population is growing rapidly, particularly in the 75 years and over age group, adding urgency to the need for more age-friendly housing in the region.
“This is about planning responsibly for the future and ensuring people have more options to live well as their needs change,” Mr Gallagher said.
A Development Application has been lodged with Campbelltown City Council, with plans expected to be placed on public exhibition soon.
If approved, construction would be delivered in stages to minimise disruption to those who live and work at Macarthur Place and the surrounding community.
