Thank an Aged Care Worker This Aged Care Employee Day
This Aged Care Employee Day, Wednesday 7 August, IRT is calling on the community to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication and quiet resolve of the more than 350,000 people who contribute to caring for older Australians in our communities.
Acting IRT Group CEO, James Pearson, said the national day was established last year to celebrate each and every team member involved in caring for people who receive aged care services.
“There are more people working in the aged care industry than people may realise. In addition to the nurses and care workers, there are cooks, hospitality teams, drivers, educators, cleaners, maintenance workers, volunteers and administration teams,” Mr Pearson said.
“These people work extraordinarily hard to provide the best quality care possible for older Australians. They pour love, passion and sheer determination into caring for our loved ones every day.
“Today is a chance for all of us in the broader community to reach out to the people who work in aged care and congratulate them for the incredible contribution they make to the lives of older Australians.”
In the lead up to Aged Care Employee Day, IRT asked some of its longest-serving Illawarra employees about their experiences working in aged care.
Kristi Gann, an IRT Illawarra Home Care Worker, has been with IRT for 25 years. She started with IRT as a volunteer and spent a number of years working in residential aged care before moving into home care.
“I fell in love with it. You’re caring for people in their home and that’s special. You meet so many different people from all walks of life,” Kristi said.
In tribute to the many unsung heroes involved in caring for older Australians, IRT will be sharing more heartfelt and wise words from its longest-serving employees on Facebook throughout the week.
