Everything you need to know about Retirement Villages

At IRT we understand that it can be difficult to know where to start when researching your retirement living options.

To assist with your retirement journey, we’ve answered some of your most commonly asked questions.

How much do retirement villages cost?

We understand making the move to a retirement village is an important financial decision. That is why are here to explain how each payment option works and help you find the right one to suit you.

The cost of living in a retirement village  will be depend on the location you choose, the size of the villa or unit and the pricing option you choose. As a retirement village resident, you’ll also make regular contributions to the cost of maintaining your community, similar to a strata levy.

What’s the difference between a retirement village and aged care?

When it comes to understanding the difference between a retirement village and aged care centre, it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start.

Retirement villages are best for people who are still able to live independently in their own home, but want to enjoy the benefits of living in a community with other older Australians.

Retirement villages come in many shapes and sizes and can range from small one-or-two-bedroom units, to four-bedroom villas and high-rise apartments.

What is a Retirement Village?

A retirement village is a community of likeminded people over the age of 55. You live independently in your own home and enjoy the benefits of community living.

Entertain family and friends by the pool or our many social spaces, attend community activities/events and have your home maintenance taken care of while you travel.

As your needs change you can access allied health services at most sites, community transport and home care. You’ll feel safe and supported with your Retirement Village Manager and neighbours close by.

Is independent living right for me?

You can live the life you want in an IRT retirement village. Make new friends and have an active social life or enjoy more peace and quiet in your new home.

Independent living gives you more choice and control over how you live your life and a low-maintenance, hassle-free home. You can choose to go travelling, knowing your belongings are safe in a secure community.

You can choose to keep busy, with weekly social activities and volunteering. You can also choose to relax… in the gardens, the library or in your home.

Which villas and apartments can I choose from?

You can choose from a range of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom villas or apartments in a variety of communities.

Every IRT retirement village offers something different, but most villas and apartments have outdoor entertaining, open-plan living and all the comforts of home.

If you’ve chosen a new villa or apartment off-the-plan, you can generally choose from a range of colour schemes and finishes.

What community facilities are there?

Our communities are designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind. Every IRT retirement village is different, but facilities may include:

This is where I met the Italian couple, Luigi and Rosa. Helen said Rosa will be translating but when I got to the bank swift code, Luigi was fine on his own.. I think he knows more then I am telling him except when I got to the banking swift numbers. This is a very nice, secure place, with very nice and humble people.

There are two IR in Tarrawanna, I went to the wrong one first. The lady directed me to the other IR at the end of the street, is that one block, two blocks or five blocks from here. She doesn’t understand the concept of blocks, your colleagues were here an hour ago, yes lady I’m a volunteer, and we have one more hour left. It five blocks up, end of the street is one block. Anyway Helen was great, she filled out her form on the QR, and talked not stop about ok turn it on and then what, I told her keep comming back and they will teach you more, the smart phone is like a encyclopedia, phone directory, jude box, and pin ball machine all in one, and global too.

Mum’s been looked after well and she loves the food.
