A comedy-show ticket that changes lives – one fridge at a time
Laughter can be a powerful force for good. IRT’s Age Matters Comedy Night invites Illawarra locals to enjoy award-winning comedians while raising vital funds for older Australians experiencing homelessness and social isolation.
Presented by Wollongong Comedy at The Basement, Builders Club Wollongong, at 8pm Friday 24 October, this year’s line-up features Australian and Irish comedy stars Cam Knight, Peter Meisel, Martin Henchion, and Rebecca de Unamuno.
Returning for its third year, the Age Matters Comedy Night highlights the life-changing impact of community support. Proceeds will help provide essential household items, including energy-efficient fridges, to older Australians in need.
“Access to secure housing is just the beginning,” said Natasha Debsieh, Manager, Age Matters.
“For many older Australians, essential living products are becoming increasingly out of reach, and coming home to an empty space without a fridge is a harsh reality.”
“A fridge isn’t just a fridge – it can be a lifeline, providing fresh food, lower energy bills, and less financial stress.”
With more than one in four older Australians living in poverty, and cost-of-living pressures growing, community support has never been more crucial.
“Your laughter can change lives,” Natasha adds. “Every ticket sold helps provide comfort, safety, and nourishment for someone in need.”
Modern 5-star fridges cost around $50 less per year to run than older 3-star models, saving up to $500 over a decade. For someone on a pension, these savings can go straight to essentials like groceries, medicine, or heating, making a real difference in everyday life.
“I’m really proud to be part of such an important cause,” said Comedian, Cam Knight.
“Comedy has the power to make people laugh – and make a real difference. I hope to see you on the night, where I’ll be doing my best to make you laugh while we all get behind this great cause.”
