IRT shares update about redevelopment of Towradgi Retirement Village

21 June 2024

IRT has confirmed its plans to resubmit the Development Application for its Towradgi retirement village to be known as Elements at IRT Towradgi Beach.

IRT originally resubmitted the DA in December 2022 after working with Wollongong City Council to incorporate raised internal road levels to address concerns regarding maximum flood levels and adequate flood and stormwater management in lower levels of the village.

IRT CEO Patrick Reid says that while the previously revised proposal comprehensively addressed key concerns, the decision has been made to again withdraw the proposal and resubmit it with additional supporting reports and modifications to the design that highlight its flood management capabilities.

“We have let Wollongong City Council know of our intention to withdraw our current proposal and to resubmit an application to more clearly depict the significant improvements we are seeking to make for the site and the future of seniors living, not just in Towradgi but the broader Wollongong region,” Mr Reid said.

IRT expects to submit its revised proposal in six to eight weeks, following which the community will then have another opportunity to review the updated proposal and offer feedback.

Mr Reid says IRT is committed to redeveloping the site.

“We are steadfast in our commitment to seeing this project through. We are passionate about supporting older Australians to enjoy the best quality of life possible and helping them maintain their independence for longer,” Mr Reid said.
