Let’s talk about . . . goals

Our residents talk about their goals for retirement.

We asked retirement village residents at IRT Peakhurst about their goals for retirement and what’s on their list of things to see and do.

Here’s what they said . . .

Beryl Bridge

“I have completed my bucket list. Now I am content knowing my four daughters, 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren are all happy and healthy. I’m very thankful to be living in IRT Peakhurst village. The help and support from carers and staff is above amazing. So I guess my ‘mature ‘ bucket list is now just to love somebody, and to be loved in return and remember to remain grateful for the gift of life.”

Don Heap

“I’d like to visit Lord Howe Island because it’s a pristine place. It has nice water there and I’d like to see the fish and swim there too. COVID restrictions have impacted overseas travel [Don spoke to us before travel restrictions changed] and you need to have the finances to do an overseas trip too. After my last trip to Asia I wanted to see a bit more of Australia – travelling here is a way to help out Australia and Australian jobs, that’s my reason for it.”

Tony Girdler

“From a young age at the top of my bucket list was to become a household name in the entertainment industry. I ended up working professionally in radio, theatre, television and film. Having lost both my parents while at school, my next wish was for a family of my own – I was blessed with 30 years of marriage to a wonderful woman and two beautiful daughters. My third wish is to outlive my great-aunt who passed away at the tender age of 105. Nevertheless, if I died tomorrow, I’d have a smile on my face and my bucket would be overflowing.”

Judy Dunkley

“Owning my own home – I lived with my Mum until she passed away, so I never had my own home until I moved into here. It was a big thing for me to do. I’ve lived here for seven years come July 2021 and I do love it. I’ve made a lot of new friends. Another thing I’d like to do is have more holidays – I’d like to visit Norfolk Island, it’s an interesting place.”

Sharon Scanes

“I would love to visit new places, Berry (NSW), Dubbo zoo and New Zealand. Also to go on a cruise to New Caledonia in 2023. The thing I would love most would be by the grace of God to heal the world of this COVID virus and for people to love each other and their friends. My goal is to have better health.”
