An update about IRT Tarrawanna Aged Care Centre

25 October 2021

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am sorry to begin this message with sad news of another resident passing away who had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The woman was 93 and had joined us in June. We have extended our sympathies to her family and our thoughts are with them as they grieve.

Test results

Results of all COVID-19 tests on residents were again negative.

All residents, other than those in Kookaburra, and all employees will be tested again today. If all results are again negative, the frequency of testing will be reduced, with testing again on Wednesday and Friday.

We are currently caring for 20 residents who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 at the care centre.

Resident wellbeing

Several residents remain stable with no symptoms, and we expect these residents to reach the recovery criteria by early November.

As I mentioned yesterday some of our residents are declining and, with support of the Virtual Community Care team, we are monitoring them closely. We continue to keep their loved ones updated with daily phone calls and compassionate visits when required.

Today residents will be offered ice-blocks as an added treat to the range already being offered, and the Lifestyle team will continue to assist them with escorted walks within the hallway and into the courtyard.

Visiting and gifts

While the results of tests are encouraging we remain vigilant, continue to operate in accordance with our outbreak management plan, and act on advice from state and federal health authorities. Unfortunately visiting cannot resume, until we are confident the outbreak is over and we receive formal directions from those health authorities.

Residents have enjoyed receiving gifts and cards, so please continue to send them if you’re able.

Gifts can be dropped off between 10am – 11am and 1pm – 2pm each day at the table outside reception. Please remember to include your loved one’s name and do not send items that require refrigeration.

Ongoing communication

As the nominated representative of your loved one, I will continue to update you via this daily email. Please pass on this information to other family contacts as appropriate.

If your loved one is a resident who has not been diagnosed with COVID-19, our team will reduce the frequency of their daily phone calls to every second day. After today you can expect a call again on Wednesday and Friday. We will continue to make daily calls to those whose loved one is diagnosed with COVID-19.

If you have any questions or concerns please call our Customer Service Team on 134 478.

Thank you again for your ongoing patience and understanding.

Yours sincerely
