An update about IRT Thomas Holt Kirrawee Aged Care Centre

Dear family member/resident representative

I am pleased to let you know that, as none of our residents have presented with COVID-19 symptoms and results for all COVID-19 tests on staff and residents have been negative, we plan to proceed with a precautionary easing of restrictions on site.

This decision has been made in consultation with the NSW Health authorities and will begin tomorrow, pending no new information overnight.

Residents in the Flame Tree building will be able to leave their rooms for meals in the dining room and to socialise in other common areas of the building and we will also resume some of our regular activities – again with caution.

Staff will gradually reduce the amount of PPE being worn, beginning with the removal of full face shields. This eased approach will continue until our final review next Monday 23 August.

As I mentioned yesterday, despite operating with increased precautions and according to our outbreak management plan, staff have continued to manage all the regular needs of your loved one’s aged care centre. This includes providing that special level of care and support for residents nearing the end of their life (for reasons not related to COVID-19).

Last night we acknowledged the passing of another of our residents who had been palliating. It’s never easy for our staff to say goodbye to one of our residents, and of course even harder for their families, but we consider it a privilege to support them during their final days and we extend our deepest sympathies to their family and friends.

While I am pleased with the current position at the centre I assure you we will continue with our vigilance to ensure the ongoing safety of your loved one during this period of heightened risk in Greater Sydney.
